Never too old!  Don’t let anyone tell you that you are “too old” to get in shape, I’m proud to proof of this!

A few months prior to my 55th birthday I had joined the gym and one day decided on trying out the free half hour personal training session.  That day I met Ray, who became my trainer for the next year.

I finally accepted what my eyes had been seeing but my brain refused to accept, I was fat, not sugar coating it.  With Ray’s guidance and my hard work within my first month I lost 5” off my chest, I swear he was more excited than I was at that, lol.

It took me awhile but I was able to go through a half hour session without taking a lot of breaks, and ultimately I worked up to 3, hour sessions a week plus Ray suggested that I try out LRB when they opened, which I added to my regime and love.

A few months into our sessions I found out I had a heart issue, which looking back now I’m not sure I accepted the whole scope of the issue but we modified when required, and I kept going to my sessions and boxing.  But as time went on I noticed I wasn’t performing well, wasn’t breathing right and luckily I had purchased a MyZone belt and we noticed my heart rate was inconsistent, at times way too high.

Ultimately I had to stop boxing due to being diagnosed with Active AFib, and then back in August I had heart surgery.  Right before this I found I have osteoarthritis in my right knee, so it did become daunting with my health issues that at a time I wanted to just throw in the towel.

I’m proud to say that throughout all this I lost overall over 35”, dropped 10% off my BMI and lost over 35 lbs!  I have since changed trainers, Rich is showing me a totally different perspective to my workout which I am loving!

People come into our lives for a reason, (Maria B, Nicole Lynn, Kelly H-C, Lynn P just to name a few) others may only be there for a short time but it was meant to happen!  Don’t fight change, change isn’t necessary bad but may be needed to continue your journey into fitness, hold your head high during the low times, celebrate your success!

I still view myself sometimes as still being the old me, this is something I need to work on daily, we are our worst enemies at times but don’t buy into that, you can do it, yes it takes time but if we don’t take care of ourselves we can’t be there for others! My story isn’t all that special, I’m now 56, some days are better than others but I’ve come to understand I must have my workouts in my life, I want to be strong, not skinny!  Remember you are NEVER too old to be in the best shape you can be!!!
